Prepare the site information

  1. Measure grid openings and above-ceiling clearance, including nearby services.
  2. Compare the actual troffer dimensions, housing depth and optical design.
  3. Identify whether recessed installation or an approved surface-mount system is required.
  4. Record selectable settings and any compatible controls for each room so the installation stays consistent.

Resolve the model-specific questions

What is the difference between a troffer and a flat panel?

Both may be used in grid ceilings, but their housing depth, optics and mounting details differ. Compare the exact fixture dimensions, distribution and above-ceiling clearance.

Will a nominal 2x4 troffer fit every 2x4 ceiling opening?

Verify the actual grid opening, fixture dimensions and installation instructions. Nominal size is a starting point, not a fit guarantee.

Can a troffer be surface mounted?

Only when the model and a compatible surface-mount system support that installation. A recessed fixture should not be fastened using improvised hardware.

How do I select wattage and color temperature?

Choose the listed settings to suit the lighting layout and neighboring fixtures. Record the final settings consistently for each room or zone.

What must be checked when adding controls?

Confirm driver protocol, control wiring, sensor inclusion and access for commissioning. A sensor interface does not establish that the sensor is supplied.

Turn the plan into an order

Keep a schedule with one line per area and selected SKU. Include the variant, fixture count, pack count, mounting accessories and control components. Mark any unconfirmed requirement explicitly so it can be resolved before the order is finalized.

Retain the specification sheet and installation instructions for the selected model with the project records. If a listed setting, connection or accessory appears inconsistent, request clarification for that exact SKU rather than transferring information from a neighboring product.
