Replacing fluorescent tubes is a fixture-compatibility project as well as a lamp purchase. The right LED T8 tube must fit the existing luminaire and support an approved installation method. This guide explains how to compare LumvoLED’s current Type A+B tube range and prepare the information an installer needs.

1. Record the existing fixture before choosing a tube

Inspect a representative fixture in each area. Record the current lamp model and nominal length, the number of lamps per fixture, the lampholder arrangement, the ballast manufacturer and model, and the available electrical supply. Photograph the fixture label, ballast label and lampholders for review. Different areas in one building may use different equipment even when the lamps look similar.

The current LumvoLED range includes nominal 2FT, 3FT, 4FT and 8FT LED T8 tubes. Nominal length is a buying reference, not a substitute for checking the selected product’s dimensions and fixture fit. Do not assume that a tube with a similar length is compatible with every fluorescent lamp type.

2. Understand the two Type A+B retrofit paths

Type A: retain a verified compatible ballast

Type A operation uses a compatible existing ballast. The exact ballast manufacturer and model matter: “electronic T8 ballast” describes a category, not a compatibility approval. Check the selected tube’s manufacturer compatibility documentation. If compatibility cannot be verified, do not treat the installation as a simple plug-and-play lamp replacement.

Type B: complete an approved ballast-bypass conversion

Type B operation bypasses the ballast. This changes the fixture’s electrical arrangement and should be planned by a qualified installer using the selected tube’s installation instructions. Confirm input voltage, lampholder requirements and the permitted power arrangement. A simplified selection illustration is not a wiring diagram.

Type A+B describes the two supported approaches; it does not authorize every ballast or wiring configuration. Confirm the method for the exact SKU before ordering, especially when several fixture models are being retrofitted.

3. Compare the current tube models

Model Maximum wattage Selectable CCT range Pack choices
2FT Type A+B 10W 5CCT: 3500K–6500K 30 / 60 / 90
3FT Type A+B 16W 5CCT: 3500K–6500K 30 / 60 / 90
4FT Type A+B, 24W / 5CCT 24W 5CCT: 3500K–6500K 30 / 60 / 90
8FT Type A+B 48W 5CCT: 3500K–6500K 20 / 40 / 60
4FT Type A+B, 22W / 5CCT 22W 5CCT: 3500K–6500K 30 / 60 / 90
4FT Type A+B, 24W / 6CCT 24W 6CCT: 3000K–6500K 25 / 50 / 75

This comparison reflects the current published product descriptions. Confirm the selected variant and current specifications before purchase. Maximum wattage is not a light-output comparison: compare the actual lumen setting and distribution needed for the space. CCT describes the appearance of white light, not brightness.

4. Plan appearance and light output together

Identify work areas, desks, circulation routes and storage aisles before selecting wattage. Compare the selected model’s available settings with the required light levels rather than selecting the maximum setting automatically. Keep CCT consistent within the same room where appropriate. For models offering clear and frosted covers, compare the product’s documented distribution and visual comfort in the existing fixture.

Do not assume that selectable wattage means the tube supports an external dimmer. If dimming is required, verify the exact tube, ballast or direct-wire configuration and control compatibility separately.

5. Convert lamp counts into pack quantities

Count fixtures in each area and lamps in each fixture. For example, 20 fixtures with two lamps each require 40 installed tubes before adding maintenance stock. Then compare that individual lamp count with the selected variant’s carton size. The 8FT and 6CCT 4FT ranges use different pack choices from several other models, so copying one pack quantity across the order can produce an incorrect lamp count.

Before sending a quote request

  • List the tube length and candidate SKU for each area.
  • Provide fixture, ballast and lampholder photographs.
  • Identify the installation path the installer has approved.
  • Confirm supply voltage, selected wattage and CCT.
  • Separate installed lamp count, spare lamps and pack quantities.
  • Record any dimming, environmental or maintenance requirements that need confirmation.

Compare Commercial LED Tube Lights or request a project quote with the fixture information above. Compatibility and installation requirements should be resolved before the order is finalized.
