Choosing CCT and Wattage for Selectable LED T8 Tubes

Understand what color temperature and wattage change, then document a consistent setting for each zone in your tube retrofit.

Selectable LED T8 tubes give a project several configuration choices within one model. The two settings answer different questions: color temperature affects the appearance of the light, while wattage affects electrical power and the model's light output. A cooler appearance does not by itself mean a brighter workspace.

Start with the exact model

For example, LumvoLED's 4FT 24W-max Type A+B model lists 10W, 12W, 15W, 18W and 24W settings, with 3500K, 4000K, 5000K, 5700K and 6500K color temperatures. Other tube models can have different choices. Check the selected product page rather than assuming every length uses the same settings.

Choose the appearance in context

Evaluate color temperature alongside the room's finishes and any lighting that will remain. Compare samples in a representative room, including the transition to adjacent spaces. Choose a documented setting for each zone; random differences between neighboring fixtures can make a completed retrofit look inconsistent.

Evaluate light on the task

The highest wattage is not automatically the best choice. Fixture spacing, mounting height, lens condition and the work being performed all influence the result. Review the selected model's output data and evaluate the sample installation at the actual work surface. Do not treat the maximum lumen figure as the output at every switch position.

Record the approved configuration

Use a schedule with columns for zone, SKU, cover, wattage and CCT. Ask the installer to configure the lamps according to their instructions and the approved schedule. Keep a copy with replacement-stock records so future maintenance preserves the same appearance.

Selectable wattage is also different from dimming compatibility. If the building uses dimmers or lighting controls, verify support for the exact tube and installation method separately.
