LED T8 Retrofit Survey: What to Record Before Ordering
A room-by-room fixture survey prevents ordering the right-looking tube for the wrong fitting. Use this checklist to prepare a clear retrofit brief.
A building can contain several generations of fluorescent fixtures. Ordering every replacement from one sample lamp can leave part of the project incompatible. Before selecting LED T8 tubes, group fixtures by their actual construction and record one representative example from each group.
Build a fixture inventory
Give each room or zone a reference number. Record the fixture count, lamps per fixture, existing lamp marking, nominal length and lens condition. LumvoLED's tube collection includes nominal 2FT, 3FT, 4FT and 8FT models; these labels are a starting point for selection, not a substitute for checking the exact dimensions.
- Room or zone and fixture identification.
- Number of fixtures and lamps in each fixture.
- Existing lamp model, length and base.
- Fixture and ballast model labels.
- Existing dimmers, occupancy controls or emergency equipment.
- Access restrictions and preferred installation schedule.
Separate physical fit from electrical compatibility
Two lamps of the same nominal length are not automatically interchangeable. Have the installer verify the lampholders, fixture arrangement and selected tube's instructions. For a Type A installation, obtain confirmation for the exact ballast model. For a Type B conversion, ask the installer to confirm the approved conversion method. A photo of the outside of a fixture cannot settle either question.
Use a sample zone
After compatibility has been confirmed, evaluate a small representative area before purchasing for the whole building. Review the lighting appearance, glare through the existing lens and visibility at desks or workbenches. Record the approved SKU, cover option and settings so the rest of the order matches the sample.
Send a complete quote brief
Keep different fixture groups as separate rows in the request. Attach the inventory and relevant equipment labels, then flag any unverified group rather than guessing its replacement. This makes it easier to resolve exceptions before a large delivery arrives.
